Did you know that the flight time between Sao Paulo to Guangzhou takes about 25 hours? The 125th Spring Canton Fair 2019 is around the corner [April-May 2019] and we are getting ready to go. We gathered some interesting facts, so you can learn all about how it is to travel there.
The Canton Fair takes place in the City of Guangzhou, Province of Guangdong, China, between April 15th to May 5th, 2019 and it is divided into three phases. There are three different ways to arrive at the fair: arriving to China by Hong Kong, Shenzhen and Guangzhou.
An interesting fact about Hong Kong is that it’s the world’s freest economy, with services sectors accounting for more than 90% of GDP. It’s the world’s 7th largest exporter of merchandise trade and the world’s 15th largest exporter of commercial services in 2017. Hong Kong is a free port and does not levy almost any customs’ tariff on imports or exports (exceptions apply).
The Pearl River Delta separates Hong Kong from China’s fourth largest city, Shenzhen. Famous by its high-tech, financial services, modern logistics and the cultural sector industries. Shenzhen attracted a population of more than 12.5 million people, due to its rapid growth in the high-tech industry, their overall value-added output has risen with an average annual growth rate of 13.4%. Another interesting fact about Shenzhen, is that in 2017, Shenzhen’s exports were responsible for 10.8% of China’s total exports!
Now, let’s talk about The Canton Fair host, the City of Guangzhou, Capital of the Guangdong Province and China’s third largest city with a population of 14.5 million people. Formerly known as Canton, it was China’s capital for three times and one of China’s nine National Central Cities!
Guangzhou has its own sky-piercing tower, The Canton Tower, once the world’s tallest. It has more restaurants than any other Chinese city and is the birthplace of Cantonese cuisine (we suggest visiting the Liwan and Tianhe Districts that are known for having the best restaurants in town!).
Guangzhou is located on the northern edge of the Pearl River Delta and its China’s most important port and main transport & trading hub. The main contributor to Guangzhou’s GDP is the tertiary industry, with its overall share of 70.9% in 2017 and its core industries include: high tech, automotive, petrochemicals, electrical and thermal energy, electrical appliances, machinery, general and specialized equipment, pharmaceuticals and rail, ship, aviation, and aerospace equipment.
The former Canton City has become one of China’s key national central cities, an international commercial center and an integrated transportation hub. Internationally acclaimed for its shipping, logistics, trade, and finance services sectors, Guangzhou is our next destination!
